Overview
An impulse often forms a clean channel in which the trendline connecting the ends of waves 1 and 3, and the trendline connecting the ends of waves 2 and 4, are parallel.
The area enclosed by these two parallel lines is called a “channel.” The entire impulse tends to be contained within this channel, and the end of wave 5 is also often formed near the channel line.
Channeling is a strong clue for verifying the validity of a count. If the entire wave structure fits cleanly within a channel, that count can be judged highly reliable. On the other hand, if a wave appears that does not fit within the channel, it becomes material for reconsidering the count.
