Elliott Wave Glossary

Throw-over

A phenomenon where wave 5 of an impulse briefly exceeds the upper channel line before reversing sharply.
Elliott Wave Glossary

Channeling

The tendency for impulse waves to be contained between two parallel trendlines (a channel).
Elliott Wave Glossary

Equality of Waves

The tendency for two of the three actionary waves (1, 3, 5) in an impulse to be equal in price change and duration.
Elliott Wave Glossary

Extension

The tendency for one of the three impulse waves (1, 3, or 5) to become significantly larger than the other two.

Wave Personality

Each wave (1–5 and A–E) has a characteristic personality rooted in crowd psychology. Most applicable at Primary degree and above.
Elliott Wave Glossary

Eight Guidelines of Impulse Waves

The eight key guidelines (tendencies, not rules) for impulse waves: extension, equality, alternation, channeling, throw-over/under-throw, previous 4th wave, Fibonacci ratios, volume.
Elliott Wave Glossary

Zigzag Guidelines

Key guidelines for identifying and measuring zigzags: wave B retracement range, wave C target ratios, alternation in double zigzags.
Elliott Wave Glossary

Flat Guidelines

Key guidelines for identifying and measuring flat corrections: wave B retracement ranges, wave C target ratios, and the meaning of an oversized wave C.

Triangle: Position, Thrust, and Guidelines

Triangles appear as the second-to-last wave in a sequence (wave 4 or wave B). After completion, a swift thrust occurs in the direction of the larger trend. Thrust target ≈ widest span of the triangle.
